Esperia stands at the highest point of the grounds, raised on stilts where the land drops toward the valley. A porch runs along the front to the terrace at the far end. From the bed, you see the valley through the window.

Inside, it is one room. A bed upholstered in rust, oak nightstands and an oak valet made at Infinitura, our woodworking studio, a square oak table by the window, and a small kitchen with olive fronts. Warm sand walls, carpet underfoot, two wall lamps for the evening. The bathroom has a walk-in shower and a live-edge wooden vanity. A writing set waits on the nightstand: paper, envelopes, a pencil.

There is one cabin of this kind. It is called Esperia — the name the ancient Greeks gave to the land to the west, where the sun goes down.
